St. Louis Officer in Palin Motorcade Hurt

ST. LOUIS (AP) _ A St. Louis police officer is injured in an accident that occurred as he was part of a motorcade escorting Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin to Lambert Airport.

The accident happened Friday morning near the airport. The officer's name was not released. Police say the injuries are not life-threatening.

Police spokeswoman Erica Van Ross says the officer was on a motorcycle when it struck another officer's motorcycle. The second officer was not hurt. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

The officer hurt his back, leg and waist.

Palin, Alaska's governor, was in St. Louis for the vice presidential debate with Democrat Joe Biden on Thursday at Washington University.

A message left with the McCain-Palin campaign was not immediately returned.
