GOVE, Kan. (AP) _ A western Kansas man has been returned to the state to face a first-degree murder charge in the death of his 85-year-old father.
Gove County District Court Clerk Teresa Lewis said 61-year-old David Stevenson is jailed in $1 million, awaiting an Oct. 7 court appearance. Stevenson was arrested Sept. 23 after reporting to his parole officer in Kansas City, Mo., and waived extradition.
Shortly after Walter Stevenson's death, David Stevenson returned to Kansas City on a parole violation in connection with a sex crime there.
The Hays Daily News reported that the death initially looked like a farm accident, as his body was reportedly found wedged between the bed of a truck and its frame. But unspecified discrepancies prompted investigators to revisit the case.
Stevenson's attorneys entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
