Record Kan. Voter Turnout Possible

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh says there
may be a record voter turnout in the Nov. 4 general election in
``Indicators are there may be a record turnout. Things are
looking very good for that right now,'' the state's chief election
official said Wednesday. ``We are telling county clerks to prepare
for a record turnout.''
Thornburgh said he's not ready to give specific estimates until
it's closer to election day. He said Kansans have until Oct. 20 to
register and advance voting starts 20 days before the election,
Oct. 15.
He said the high turnout is expected because of the highly
contested presidential election, coupled with strong campaigns in
the 2nd and 3rd congressional districts plus various local issues
on the ballot.
