CLAY CENTER, Kan. (AP) _ Clay County Sheriff Chuck Dunn has hired part-time county jailer Fred Probst as undersheriff, a position he held three decades ago.
Dunn announced the appointment last week. Probst replaces Lonnie Adams, who resigned to work in the private sector.
Probst started his law enforcement career in 1973, working for the Clay Center Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff's Department. He was undersheriff from 1977, until he left the department in 1979.
After working at Fort Riley, he became a criminal investigator in 1992. He retired in March.
Probst said he took the jailer job to have something to do in his retirement.
