The slumping economy is prompting a major trucking firm to shut down an administrative center in Topeka. YRC Worldwide plans to close the center by the end of the year.
The center has about 90 employees who handle billing and bill collecting.
The company says about half of those employees will be transferred to offices in Overland Park. The rest will have their jobs either eliminated or outsourced.
Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bill Zollars tells the Topeka Capital-Journal that the volumes of business going through the Topkea offica have dropped 20 percent from a year ago.
Headquartered in Overland Park, YRC Worldwide has about 60,000 employees.
