Washburn University Launched New Emergency Alert System

Washburn University is the latest school to launch an emergency alert system for students and faculty.

The iAlert system sends emails to Washburn accounts and voice and text messages to numbers provided by students and staff. It will be used to notify people of a campus emergency or special situation.

"The iAlert system significantly enhances our ability to maintain a safe academic environment for staff, faculty and students," Washburn University President Jerry Farley said in a statement. "Being able to issue alerts using an integrated emergency notification system allows us to take advantage of every available channel of communication."

The system is free and voluntary.
