History meets the outdoors this weekend in Lecompton for the fifth annual Bald Eagle Rendezvous.
The event features living history lessons like knife throwing, blacksmithing and old fashioned cooking.
Students from local elementary schools visited the site Friday and had the chance to meet historical figure Benjamin Franklin in person.
" They can actually see and ask and maybe be intrigued a little bit to read something rather than just somebody say well it's in the book, it's just words," Benjamin Franklin reenactor, Dennis Burke, said. "It's something they can actually see, put their hands onto."
He also had some important lessons for the students.
"Get away from the TV, the computers, and see what the other part of the world was like at the time," he said. "I've been trying to get all of them to promise me that they will go read on book on Benjamin Franklin."
The Bald Eagle Rendezvous is at Bald Eagle River View Park in Lecompton and is free to the public. It will be open from 9 am until five pm tomorrow and 10 am until 4 pm Sunday.
