Music sounded across the grounds of the Kansas Statehouse as state employess enjoyed the United Way State Employees' Appreciation Celebration.
Area high school bands played as employees heard speeches from Kansas Department of Labor Secretary Jim Garner and Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson.
Several United Way agencies set up booths so employees could learn more about what they do.
State workers raised around $330,000 last year and hope to top that mark with this year's campaign.
