Manhattan school officials dismissed students from the West High School campus at 2 pm Thursday. Classes Friday have been canceled as well.
The decision came after the school received its second bomb threat of the day. Riley County Police Lt. Kurt Muldrup says the first was phoned in to the school around 11 am Thursday. He says no action was taken with the students at that time, but officials did search the campus for anything unusual. The second threat was phone in to 911 around 1 pm. Lt. Muldrup says the school decided to send students home at that time because it was so late in the day.
Authorities are on the scene doing a thorough search of the building as students dismiss and will remain on the scene until their search is complete.
