NORTON, Kan. (AP) _ Law officers say an inmate who walked away from a Kansas prison work detail is in custody after three days of freedom.
Norton County deputies said Friday that 46-year-old Christopher Zorn was picked up by police in Denver after a car he allegedly stole from an elderly Kansas woman was found. Kansas authorities are awaiting the outcome of an extradition hearing in Colorado.
The woman was beaten during the theft and was hospitalized in Wichita, where family members say she's listed in stable condition. Her 1987 Mercury Sable was found in an Interstate 70 rest area east of Denver.
A warrant filed in Norton County District Court charges Zorn with escape, battery, kidnapping, burglary and felony theft.
The case is still under investigation by local authorities.
