K-State President Jon Wefald calls him the Kansas version of Will Rogers.

Wefald offered a vote of thanks from the friends and fans of Topeka Capitol Journal Editor and columnist Pete Goering Thursday at a retirement reception on the Washburn university campus.

Pete officially wrapped up his 35 year career with the Cap Journal about three weeks ago.

Goering has written countless columns since he began with the Cap Journal is 1973 and along with the job came lots of editorial decisions, too.

Goering will remain on the paper's editorial board, but he left day-to-day work to focus on his battle against lung cancer.
