The Auburn Washburn School District has had two staff members deal with viral meningitis in the past couple months. Now, a Wilson County School District reports several students sick with viral meningitis.
The Wilson County Health Department says the illness reports come from USD 387, Altoona-Midway. Viral meningitis is less serious than bacterial meningitis. Symptoms include fever, headache and tiredness.
Most people recover in seven to ten days. To prevent viral meningitis be sure you wash your hands frequently, avoid people who are sick, and stay home if you are sick.
Clean contaminated household surfaces with 1/4 cup of bleach and 1 gallon of water. Also, see a doctor if you think you or your child might have symptoms.
