Murder Charges Filed in Kicking Death of Guard

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) A Springfield man faces murder charges in the death of a hospital security guard who was kicked in the head last month.

Prosecutors on Tuesday filed upgraded charges of second-degree murder and felony murder against 41-year-old Jeffrey Bolden. Prosecutors say Bolden kicked 62-year-old Monte Ruby as the guard tried to restrain him at Cox North Hospital Aug. 2.

Ruby died four days later.

Bolden was strapped to a bed after police brought him to the hospital for treatment of a police dog's bite suffered while allegedly fleeing Springfield officers.

Bolden is also accused in felony charges of stabbing his cousin in July, assaulting his girlfriend with a telephone and a barbecue fork in January and an attack on another woman last year.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
