Person Accused of Attacking Lawyer Bound Over For Trial

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) _ A Leavenworth murder suspect accused of attacking his lawyer is bound over for trial.

Maureko Bonner is scheduled for arraignment Sept. 26 on kidnapping and battery charges for allegedly attacking attorney KiAnn McBratney on Aug. 8, 2007. At his preliminary hearing Friday, Bonner was strapped into a chair per the judge's orders.

McBratney was representing Bonner in a second-degree murder case in the stabbing death of Gary Mullins at a Leavenworth home. After a court appearance, she agreed to Bonner's request that they discuss his case in a courthouse conference room.

Once inside, McBratney testified, Bonner slammed her into a wall twice before officers came to her aid. McBratney said she underwent surgery on fractures in her right arm, and still deals with the effects of the attack.
