Westar Energy crews are on their way to assist the Gulf Coase with hurricane recovery efforts.

Monday, 38 employees, including linemen, management, field supervisors and a safety coordinator left for Louisiana. They'll be helping restore power to areas affected by Hurricane Gustav.

In addition, more than a hundred distribution lineman contractor crews are already in Louisiana along with more than 230 tree trimming contractor employees who normally work for Westar. They'll be moving on to Texas this week.

Eestar expects its crews to remain in the region several more weeks. By Monday afternoon, Entergy reported 494,000 customers in Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas without power. Also, more than 2 million CenterPoint Energy customers were without power in Texas.
