TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ With the operations winding down in Louisiana, Kansas National Guard officials are waiting for requests to send more resources to Texas after Ike slammed ashore.
Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, Kansas adjutant general, said about 200 soldiers were leaving Louisiana on Monday to return to Kansas after
helping provide security and distribute relief supplies to residents hit by Gustav.
Three Black Hawk helicopters are near Houston with 21 crew members to assist with recovery efforts from Ike. Bunting and Gov.
Kathleen Sebelius said more could be sent once Texas officials
determine what assistance is needed.
Bunting said one possible request is for the state's emergency medical system, which is a portable, self-supporting hospital.
