Laura Bush Will Come to Topeka in President's Place

WASHINGTON (AP) _ First Lady Laura Bush will take her husband's
place Tuesday at a Topeka fundraiser for State Treasurer Lynn
Jenkins' congressional campaign.

President Bush had been scheduled to headline the event, but a
White House spokesman says Bush will be traveling to Texas instead
to see damage from Hurricane Ike.

The fundraiser is at a private residence and will be closed to
the press.

Jenkins, a Republican, is raising money for her challenge to
incumbent Democratic Rep. Nancy Boyda.

Invitations to the event had asked for $500 to attend and up to
$7,500 for a couple to have their picture taken with the president.
