TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Board of Education admits it made a mistake when it reported this week that five small school districts failed to show adequate yearly progress.
The Kansas Department of Education on Friday blamed the error on software used to rate districts' performance. The software scan showed a zero graduation rate in districts that don't include high school.
Department of Education Communications Director Karla Denny said a ``programming filter error'' showed the districts as failing to show adequate progress this year.
She said the results for Fort Leavenworth, West Solomon Valley, Hanston, Copeland and Lewis school districts were adjusted. Denny also said three other districts, Mission Valley, Osage City and Liberal, signed off on their reports but shouldn't have, due to scoring errors.
