TECUMSEH, Kan. - Shawnee County Sheriff deputies say they received a call of an injury auto accident at 5:21 p.m. Thursday on Highway 40 near Green Road.
Officials say a 2007 Chevy Malibu was eastbound on Highway 40. They say a couple of vehicles in front of the Malibu were slowing just past Green Road because the lead vehicle was turning into a private drive.
Deputies say the driver Malibu could not slow in time and swerved into the westbound lane to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of it.
A Ford pickup westbound of Highway 40 collided head-on with the Malibu, sending the pickup into the highway railing. No other vehicles were damaged.
Officials say the female driver of the Malibu was taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital and the male driver of the pickup was taken to St. Francis Hospital, both in Topeka. Both were transported code yellow with non life-threatening injuries.
Neither drivers had passengers in their vehicles and officials say both were wearing their seatbelts.
