Dick Winger prepares to give blood during a blood drive at KNI in Topeka Thursday. The donation pushed Winger to 30 gallons worth of lifetime blood donations.
TOPEKA - A Topeka man hit a milestone in life-saving giving Thursday.
Dick Winger has donated 30 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He has been donating since 1955. He will be 85-years old at the end of the month.
"It's an important need for many folks that have surgeries," Winger said. "This is something that you can do for the common good."
Winger has been giving blood as often as possible lately - that's every 8 weeks. He says he regrets not giving as much as he could earlier in life.
