OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma regulators will allow a Kansas-based company to build transmission lines in the state.

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission today approved a request from Topeka-based ITC Great Plains to operate as a transmission utility in the state. It plans to develop and build high-voltage transmission lines in Oklahoma and Kansas.

Joe Welch is president and CEO of ITS Holdings Corporation, a Michigan company that owns the Kansas operator. He called the decision a big step in the process of building the transmission lines, which could connect lines in Kansas and Texas.

The company already got approval from Kansas regulators.

Welch says the lines won't be built before 2012 at the earliest.
