ALMA, Kan. (AP) _ A former Kansas state arson investigator is sentenced to 32 months in prison for soliciting sex from a teenager.
Richard Blevins of Maple Hill had pleaded no contest in Wabaunsee County District Court to aggravated indecent solicitation of a child younger than 14. Blevins agreed to the plea in exchange for dismissal of four counts each of rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.
County Attorney Norbert Marek said at the sentencing Monday that the judge didn't grant probation because Blevins has never accepted responsibility for his actions. Marek said the plea deal made it possible for the teenager to avoid having to testify at trial.
Blevins was an arson investigator with the Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office for 22 years, and retired after criminal charges were filed in 2007.
