4 Construction Workers Hurt

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A wall collapsed at a car wash that's under construction in Wichita, leaving four construction workers seriously injured.

Fire Capt. William Franklin told The Wichita Eagle that the workers were hurt when most of the building's south wall collapsed about 9:50 a.m. Thursday. The cinder block wall was about 30 feet tall and 40 to 50 yards long.

The workers appeared to have been struck by debris while in a trench inside the building.

It is not clear what caused the collapse, but Franklin said the wall was less stable because the building did not have a roof yet.

The car wash is being constructed across the street from an elementary school.
