EMPORIA, Kan. - At about 2p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Emporia State University advised us the ESU Memorial Union has been evacuated because someone walked away from a suspicious item.
ESU tells us someone saw a person leave a bag outside the west door of the union and officials requested assistance in determining if the bag might contain explosives.
All access to Union Square was closed until it was determined the area is safe. Early in the evening, ESU Officials put out an all clear message reading: "It has been determined the suspicious bag, which was found in Union Square is not a threat and it has been removed. The Memorial Union and Union Square are re-opened. The Emergency Condition is canceled."
The campus was notified of the potential danger through the schools instant messaging system.
