TOPEKA, Kan. - A Topeka retirement community is setting itself up for future growth while sprucing up a local apartment complex.
Brewster Place, 1205 SW 29th Street, Topeka, purchased neighboring Country Club Apartment complex, 2933 SW Central Park Ave., in late August and changed the name to Fairway Apartments.
By purchasing the neighboring complex, Brewster Place is positioned for future expansion possibilities.
For the next 3 years, Brewster executives say they plan to keep Fairway Apartments a complex for all ages, not exclusively senior living.
"In the past as we've acquired property in the neighborhood we haven't necessarily known what we were gonna do with it," said Tom Akins, Vice President of Development and Planning for Brewster Place. "They don't make new land these days, so if you want to be able to have possibilities for future expansion, now's a good time to acquire that."
Brewster Place has hired a property management firm, Rental Management Solutions, to run the property as an apartment complex. But Akins says they intend to improve it. "We've already started on upgrades to the apartments. We're going to extend the fence out in front of Brewster out past it. Do some other upgrades so that people who live there have a safe and secure place to live and somebody that they can call when they have challenges they need fixed."
