TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A former elementary school teacher is sentenced to just over seven years in federal prison for possession of child pornography found at his home in Topeka.
Nearly two years after investigators found more than 4,000 child porn images and videos in his apartment, Coen Potts was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Court Judge Julie Robinson. He also faces five years of supervised release and registry as a sex offender.
He pleaded guilty in June.
Robinson said that despite Potts' remorse and his decision to seek treatment, she was troubled that he possessed porn while teaching children in the Auburn-Washburn district. The judge also noted that while awaiting trial, he was found to have pornography and marijuana in his possession.
In a letter read by his attorney, Potts said he would never harm an adult or child and asked for mercy.
