Lenexa police have released the name of the man shot and killed by Kansas City officers after he swung a sword at them. A police statement Monday identified the man as 54-year-old Marvin Parker.
Officers responding to a call early Sunday about a person yelling in the street arrived to find Parker holding an object they later determined to be a sword. The officers chased Parker on foot and when they tried to arrest him, they said he attempted to hit them with the sword.
The officers shot the suspect and he was pronounced dead at the
scene. The two officers, both 18-month veterans of the department, are on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
