A new wind turbine is up and running for the Kansas State University's wind applications center in Manhattan.

Construction began at about 10:00 a.m. Friday and was completed by the afternoon.

The turbine is small but will provide power to the fire station nearby and will save the city $300-$400 a year in energy costs.

The turbine is part of the Wind-For-Schools project and is a memorial to Luke Short, a former student in the Wind-For-Schools program who passed away recently.
