BAGHDAD (AP) -- An Iraqi police official says a car bomb apparently targeting the convoy of former Pentagon favorite Ahmad Chalabi has exploded in western Baghdad, killing two civilians.
But the official says Chalabi was not in the convoy at the time.
He says 17 others were wounded including nine of Chalabi's bodyguards. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't allowed to release the information.
The bomb exploded Friday night in the Baghdad neighborhood of Mansour. No other details were immediately available.
Chalabi is a secular Shiite and former Iraqi deputy prime minister. He was once viewed by Washington as a possible successor to Saddam Hussein.
