NYC Firefighters Help Out in Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Kan. (AP) - More than 30 New York City firefighters are in Kansas for the weekend, giving back to the people of Greensburg.

They'll be among 300 volunteers building a new 4-H county fairground pavilion in Greensburg to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Each year the firefighters help a community rebuild from a natural disaster in return for the support they got after the terrorist attacks.

Their group -- New York Says Thank You Foundation -- made plans to help Greensburg recover from the May 4, 2007, EF-5 tornado that all but wiped out the town and killed 11 people.

Foundation founder Jeff Parness calls this weekend's project "the country's largest barn raising."
