HUTCHINSON - Visitors to the Kansas State Fair will notice a few additions and subtractions with the opening of the 10-day event on Friday.

Auto racing is gone after concerns over the noise and safety.
But auto fans can still watch a demolition derby or the Freestyle
MX, a new event featuring stuntmen on motorcycles.

This year's classic rock concerts will bring in Styx, Poison and
Alice Cooper.

New this year will be an open-air pavilion, located next to the
interactive water fountains, offering visitors some shade in the
heart of the fairgrounds. Other additions include a text-messaging contest and a five-minute, $40-per-person helicopter ride over the fairgrounds.

Returning this year are the usual fair favorites such as pig
races, butter sculpture, chain-saw artist and food fair.
