Get Ready: State Fair to Host Preparedness Day

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - With September being "Preparedness Month" in Kansas, the State Fair will host state, local and federal officials who work daily to keep Kansans safe.

Throughout the day Monday in Hutchinson, equipment and information booths will be on display showing the role various agencies play in protecting against disasters, both manmade and natural.

A news conference in scheduled for 10 a.m. with Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the state adjutant general and state director of emergency management; Health and Environment Secretary Rod Bremby; and Highway Patrol Superintendent Col. Terry Maples. They will discuss steps to make homes, businesses and communities ready for emergencies.

The campaign suggests all Americans do the following:
1) Create an emergency supply kit
2) Make a family emergency plan
3) Be informed
4) Get involved
