24-Hour Crisis Service Hotline Announced

The Topeka Coalition on Adult Abuse is taking some of the pressure off Topeka police by putting a 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency numbers in the public's hands.

The coalition announced its "Hot Pockets" community campaign Wednesday.

Organizers say the effort is about providing the 24-hour numbers to the public in addition to law enforcement on a two-sided wallet card to use during times of crisis.

"In those times you need to be able to know - even in the middle of the night - that there's someplace you can call to get someone help," Karen Peterson of SRS said. "We don't believe it's law enforcement's job to take car of services in crisis, they just need a way to get people hooked up quickly. These cards have the numbers that are available 24-7."

The coalition is working with Safe Streets to decide the best way to distribute the cards through the community.

Agencies listed on the card:
SRS Abuse and Neglect hotline
