School Districts Get To Work After Labor Day

(WIBW)--Two local school districts got back to work after Labor Day Tuesday, with finances at the top of their agendas.

Auburn Washburn USD 437 approved a maximum price for Ferrell Construction of Topeka Inc. to work on their new elementary school. Farley Elementary will now have a maximum price of $17,873,749.00.

This is about 4.6 percent higher than the original price.

Superintendent Dr. Brenda Dietrich said this is a good safety net for the builders, the district and tax payers.

Shawnee Heights got back to work Tuesday evening as well, hearing a status report on the nearly $26 million 2004 bond issue. It is on schedule, and should be complete this November.

So far it has, among other projects, added air conditioning to the elementary school and moved the middle school office to the front of the building -- giving it better security.

At that price, superintendent Dr. Martin Stessman says it is nearly a miracle.
