SEATTLE (AP) _ Boeing Co. could face another strike over this year's proposed contract.
Members of the Machinists union, which went on strike against Boeing for four weeks in 2005, are to vote Wednesday on an offer that their leaders have recommended they reject. If at least two-thirds approve a strike, the walkout will begin at 12:01 a.m. Thursday.
The main issues in the dispute are job security and medical benefits. Boeing is offering an 11 percent pay raise over three years and a $2,500 bonus if workers approve the contract.
A strike would affect about 25,000 workers in the Seattle area, 1,800 in Wichita and 800 in Portland. The average machinist earns $27 an hour, or about $56,000 a year.
