Defense Appeals Nurse's Detention

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Attorneys for a Kansas nurse accused of running a ``pill mill'' with her husband are appealing to a federal
judge for her release pending trial.

Linda Schneider's defense team went before U.S. District Judge Monti Belot Tuesday in a bid to overturn the detention order issued by a lower magistrate judge. Schneider remains jailed under an order deeming her a flight risk and denying bond.

Her husband, Dr. Stephen Schneider, also is charged in the case but was released from custody in April. They were arrested in December.

The defense argues electronic monitoring is sufficient to keep track of her whereabouts. The prosecution contends she has the desire and means to flee to Mexico.

Belot says he will issue his order after reviewing the case file.
