LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ Jury selection begins in the trial of a woman accused in the hit-and-run deaths of two highway workers south of Lawrence.
Ramona Morgan of Chewelah, Wash., faces two counts of reckless second-degree murder in the Sept. 11, 2007, deaths in a work zone on U.S. Highway 59 near Pleasant Grove. State highway worker Tyrone Korte of Seneca and contractor's employee Rolland Griffith of El Dorado died.
The 49-year-old Morgan also is charged with aggravated battery, accused of injuring a third worker. Jury selection was to start Tuesday.
Prosecutors say Morgan ignored signs and warnings to stop and twice drove through the blocked-off construction area.
Morgan was convicted by an Osage County jury in April of a felony charge of trying to flee from police, as well as several misdemeanor traffic violations.
