Need For Nurses, Teachers Rising

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A new state labor report says five of the top 10 fastest-growing occupations in Kansas will see a 40 percent rise in demand through 2014.

In some fields there are more jobs than there are qualified applicants, the report says.

Those positions are in fields such as health care, education and computing, according to the Kansas Department of Labor report.

The study is intended to provide data for students, parents and educators to use in making career and coursework decisions.

In addition to pointing out the growing need for teachers and registered nurses over the next six years, the report also notes that there will be a 30 percent increase in employment in the gambling and recreation industries because of a new law allowing casinos in the state.
