Officer Involved Shooting Kills 18 Year Old Suspect

OTTAWA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation of a Saturday officer-involved shooting where a teenager was shot and killed in Ottawa over the weekend.

The Franklin County Sheriff's department said officers were called to the Orschlen's Farm and Home store at 2008 S Princeton Road shortly before 8:00 p.m. Saturday on a report of
somebody armed with a gun.

Shortly after arriving, officials were involved in a shooting with 18 year old Joseph Jennings in the store's parking lot. Police say Jennings was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died.

All officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave.

Jennings' aunt told KCTV om Kansas City that on Thursday, her nephew was admitted to a hospital after attempting suicide.

She went on to say that it was just three hours after he left the hospital that he walked to Orscheln's on what she called a "suicide mission". Smith said that Jennings was suffering with depression, seizures and anxiety.
