Topeka West Celebrates The Life Of First Principal, Dr. Owen Henson

Hundreds gathered to remember a man who had a large influence on Topeka education.

Owen Henson, Topeka West High School's first Principal passed away July 2nd at the age of 87.

Henson served as Principal of T-West from 1961 until 1974.

The celebration of life ceremony was held in the school's auditorium. Henson's son, Scott, said some his dad's best memories came from serving the Charger student body. "His proudest moments and his most cherished moments were those being Principal and here opening up Topeka West High School and just being involved in starting from the very beginning, a brand new high school."

In all Henson, served the Topeka Public School District for 37 years. Henson was awarded the Distinguished Staff Award in 2011
