TOPEKA, KAn. (WIBW)-- It's been nearly a week since 13 News reported what was originally described as an accident with minor injuries at SW 21st and Auburn Road.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office reported that a Ford Focus failed to yield at a stop sign and struck a medical transport van.

69 year old John Berberich and his 67 year old wife Zona suffered what were described as minor injuries.

The Berberich's reportedly were on their way to a hospice care center, however on Monday, published obituaries indicated John and Zona Berberich both died hours apart two days after the accident on July 18th.

The Topeka Capital Journal reported that the coroner's office indicates Zona's death was due to crash injuries. The office is conducting an autopsy for John.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Office is still investigating how what looked like a minor accident became a double fatality.

Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Hope Chapel on SW 17th street in Topeka.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association, Midland Hospice Care or Helping Hands Humane Society.
