TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Firefighters battled heavy smoke and flames -- along with the hot weather -- at a home in north Topeka on Thursday afternoon.
They were called to the home in the 1500 block of NW Eugene St. around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to authorities. They said the fire was coming from the ceiling when crews arrived and the heat and humidity took a toll on crews as they fought the flames.
The house was vacant. Fire officials said it appears the owners were renovating. The exact cause of the fire isn't known, but isn't believed to be suspicious.
The hose was likely a total loss.
