Kansas Governor signs law requiring meningitis vaccinations for students.

Starting next year, students moving into campus housing at Kansas universities will need to be vaccinated for meningitis.
Governor Sebelius today signed a bill intended to protect students from the potentially deadly disease.
Students who refuse the vaccinations will have to sign a waiver saying they understand the risks.
The requirement takes effect for freshmen for the fall 2007 school term. Colleges and universities will be required to have policies in place for all students living in on-campus housing to get vaccinated.
In 2004, Sebelius called for additional education for college students on meningitis and urged students to be vaccinated after several students became ill.
