A hit and run in North Topeka Wednesday morning sparked a short police chase and the recovery of what is believed to be a stolen vehicle.

Police say a driver hit a 13-year old boy as he was bicycling in the 800 block of NW Gordon just after 9 am Wednesday. The driver took off, but police soon spotted the vehicle on the Kansas Avenue bridge. After a short chase, the vehicle finally stopped in the 700 block of SW Buchanan, and two people inside got out and ran.

Officers trailed the pair to the Cotton-O'Neil Digestive Health Center in the 700 block of Lincoln. One man came out and surrendered to officers. The other locked himself in an office, but was taken into custody a short time later.

22-year old Steven Rule Jr. of Topeka, was arrested on charges of felony theft, felony obstruction, felony eluding, failure to render aid, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal damage, four counts of stop sign violation, red light violation and suspended driver’s license. 22-year old Tyson J. Holloway of Topeka was arrested on charges of felony theft, felony obstruction, failure to render aid, misdemeanor theft and occupant failure to report. Both were taken to the Shawnee County Jail.

Police say the vehicle the suspects were driving had been reported stolen from a local car dealer.

The boy hit suffered only minor injuries.

This story just about broke my heart all over again. Thank god the little boy survived. I wished that would of been the case for my best friend who was killed by the likes of this mans father. She was walking along the highway when Steven Rule SR. hit her & left the scene of the accident & was arrested days later. She was someone's daughter, mother of 3 beautiful children & my bestfriend. I guess your children learn what you teach them. I hope JUSTICE is served in this case as it wasnt in my best friends case!!
