TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Topeka man faces carjacking and assault charges after allegedly stealing a car at gunpoint Wednesday evening.
Twenty-five year-old Nyameshua K. Jones was taken to the Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office for questioning, after which he is expected to be facing charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Felony Theft, according to the Sheriff's Office.
They said he stole the car in Pauline Shopping District, 5900 SW Topeka Blvd., around 6:30 p.m. After the victim got out of her car, Jones reportedly approached her, asking for a cigarette. He then wandered off, while she went into a business.
After she was inside, Jones walked up to the car, where the victim's teenaged family member still was and held out a gun, the Sheriff's Office said. The teen got out and Jones took off down Topeka Blvd.
A witness tailed the car all the way into Osage Co., giving 911 dispatchers updated information the whole time.
An Osage Co. deputy spotted the car heading west along Highway 56 and followed it into Burlingame, where Jones stopped and ran into a house. Authorities eventually managed to coax him back out and he was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m.
