Severe Storms Cause Significant Damage, Derail Train In Central Kansas

GALVA, Kan. (KAKE) -- A severe storm packing estimated winds of 80-90 mph have left behind significant damage in McPherson and Dickinson County.

In Galva, homes were pelted by hail and roofs pulled off of at least two homes. A train has derailed, with around 30 cars knocked off of the track. Galva fire officials tell KAKE News that the train was not carrying any chemicals.

The roads in and out of Galva are closed to traffic and officials ask for people to stay away.

In Dickinson County, there are reports of powerlines and trees down in the town of Carlton. Dickinson County Emergency Management reports significant damage in Abilene with trees, homes and vehicles damaged by the high winds and hail.
