TOPEKA, Kan. _ While the U.S. military may be known for its might, a group of international officers say there's room for improvement when it comes to cultural awareness.

The comments came during a discussion Friday at the Kansas Statehouse, where 65 officers from 62 nations were learning about state government. The officers are studying for a year at Fort Leavenworth's Command and General Staff College. Organizers say this will be the 100th year for the program. Fort Leavenworth has been hosting international officers since 1894.

Though the U.S. military is respected for its technology and efficiencies, the officers said improving cultural awareness would boost relations with other militaries and civilians worldwide.

The group toured the city of Leavenworth earlier this week to learn about city government. Friday's stop highlighted state government and included stops at the Secretary of State's office, the Kansas Supreme Court and the Kansas Museum of History.

Later in the year, the group will travel to Washington D.C. to learn about the federal government.
