A dog is shot dead after it attacked a Sheriff's Deputy.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's office was in the 2200 block of Madison to pick someone up on a warrant.

Deputies say the person attempted to run, that's when they say the dog went after a deputy.

The deputy fatally shot the dog.

Authorities were able to catch and arrest the person they were there to pick up.

The sheriff's office says a report will be filed, but no other action will likely be taken.

Someone below said they saw the whole thing. So why didn't the police let them remove the dog from the scene. It broke away from it's leash and was protecting it's owner or territory. Now someone is minus a good watch dog that could have been saved. And probably a good friend. Sad.

So... how could the cops know for sure that the lady wouldn't turn the dog loose and hadn't trained him to kill? It's not unknown for dogs to be trained to kill so why would a cop take that chance? The dog was tied up and except for the fact that it wasn't tied securely that would seem to be the safest place to leave him. Unless the cops personally knew the lady and knew she and her dog were safe to let loose. What kind of person trains their dog to bite because of noise? Even when the owner is standing right there and hopefully telling the dog to stop? Something fishy, imo.

Jessicca, just because a dog bites doesn't mean he is trained to do so. Many bite out of fear, frustration or because they are loyal to their owners and want to protect them. Either way it is unfortunate for the poor dog.
