PINKED OUT Students Honor Alayna

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- It has been a rough past few days for the Seaman High School community.

Tuesday night, students remembered Alayna Hutchison by sharing a moment of silence for her.

The Vikings Junior Varsity cheerleading squad had an empty spot Tuesday night.

15-year-old sophomore Alayna Hutchison died in a car accident just up the road from the school Sunday.

"It's hard to look at the cheerleaders and know she is not going to be there anymore," said Alayna's classmate, Sieria Adkis.

The student body had a pink out theme at the basketball game. From pink hats to pink headbands, pink bows, and pink socks, Alayna's classmates and friends wore her favorite color in her honor.

"I think it's good we can come together as a community. It takes your mind off things in kind of a positive way instead of mourning and celebrating that she is peace now," said Sieria.

On the opposing sidelines, the Washburn Rural cheer squad also wore pink for Alayna.

"It's awesome to see everyone who is coming around to see the support we are getting for her is amazing," said Alayna's classmate, Coby Worcester.

Alayna's life was cut short, but her classmates say she will never be forgotten and together, they will remain "Seaman Strong."

"She definitely had an impact on everybody that she came to. She always had a smile on her face and always brightened my day and I will never forget that," said Sieria.

Alayna was not only a cheerleader, she was a soccer player and wrote for the school's paper.

Her funeral is set for 1 p.m. Friday at the Penwell-Gabel's Parker Price Chapel in North Topeka.
