Record Breaking Cold for March

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Record cold temperatures were set both Sunday, March 2nd and Monday, March 3rd in Topeka Kansas.

The afternoon high on March 2nd was only 8 degrees. This was the coldest afternoon high temperature every recorded in Topeka, KS. Weather records have been kept since 1888. It broke the previous record for coldest high temperature in March of 9 degrees set on March 4th, 1960.

Monday morning's low temperature dropped to -3 which set a new record low for March 3rd. This breaks the previous record low of -1 set in 1960. The all time record low for the month of March still stands at -7, set on March 4, 1978.
